And that’s exactly what happened! :)
Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite
holidays. (It actually holds the #2 spot on my Favorite Holidays List—#1 is
Valentine’s Day! What can I say, I’m a fool for love!) Waking up to the smell
of sage and turkey, fresh pumpkin pie, green bean casserole, Mom’s homemade dressing,
who doesn’t love Thanksgiving?! My mouth is salivating just thinking about it!
As children, we followed strict tradition. Lunch at
Grandma’s house, and an early dinner at Nanny’s. We never strayed from that.
It’s like the old saying goes, ‘If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.’
Everything changes, including Thanksgiving.
This year I just went to Grandma’s house for a
mid-afternoon lunch/early dinner. With everyone starting their own little
families, it’s hard to please everyone’s schedules. Grandma set a time, and if
you made it, you made it. Some traditions held true—everyone participated in
bringing a few dishes.
I would like to take a minute to pat myself on the back.
I bake two pumpkin pies, made a chocolate éclair pie, and whipped up deviled
eggs! Thank you, thank you! You may be thinking, ‘Big deal, Jess, I cooked
too.’ The thing is, I don’t cook and I don’t bake. I eat. This was a big deal
for me. I followed recipes to the tee! And, you know what happened? Everything
turned out wonderful!
After everyone stuffed their faces, we proceeded to
lounge for a bit and let everything settle. Shortly after, families departed
and went their separate ways.
I don’t know about you, but I miss the days in elementary
school—the ones where you made a turkey from the outline of your hand, then
proceeded to fill in the fingers/feathers with what you were thankful for.
Unfortunately, never once did any of us mention what we were/are thankful for. :)
I thought I’d take the time now to make a short list of
things I am thankful for:
- I am thankful for the opportunity to share my thoughts, feelings, and experiences with each and every one of my blog readers/followers. I appreciate you all taking the time to stay in tune with me and what’s going on in my neck of the woods!
- Family is my backbone; without my family, my supporters, I don’t know where I’d be today. So today, and every day, I am thankful for my family! My parents are like no other! My siblings are the best!
- I am thankful to be in love with my best friend! This year marks the third Thanksgiving Jason and I have spent together! I’m a lucky girl to have him in my life!
- I am also thankful for Jason’s family. They, each, have taken me in as one of their own.
- I am thankful Jason and I were able to adopt two of the best rescue dogs! Charlie and Howie do, occasionally, annoy the living hell out of me, but at the end of the day, I’d be lost without them.
- I am thankful that I have a job! I lucky to be one of those people who actually like their job, most days. I am in a place that not only sees my potential, but lets me create it. The sky is the limit, and I am reaching for the stars, with my coworkers support and encouragement.
- I am thankful to generally have good health. Knock on wood, no migraines in a week! :)
- I am thankful to have the ability, the motivation, and the means to go back to school. I have recently been accepted into the Pre-Veterinarian program.
- I am thankful to have the courage to face new and frightening feats/obstacles. (Blog post to come at a later time.)
- I am thankful to have an amazing niece and an outstanding nephew, and one special bundle of joy waiting to make his/her appearance into this world in June.
I could list multiple more
things I am thankful for. For
myself, as I mature, I wish to not only so gratitude for people, places,
experiences, and things in my life, on Thanksgiving, but to make it a daily task
tradition, a daily unconscious effort. Showing and giving thanks
shouldn’t be one day a year, it should be an everyday thing! (Challenge
accepted?!)
I wish all of you the HAPPIEST Thanksgiving yet! May each of
you and your families be infinitely blessed!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING Y’ALL!
